Over time, as your body changes, you’ll need to adjust your mattress and pillow to better serve the alignment of your spine and your comfort level. Mattresses older than seven years should be replaced as it won’t provide the necessary support you’ll need for a restful sleep.

Eating Habits

What you eat before bed and the time that you eat may be affecting your sleep patterns. Give your body at least two hours before you lay down for bed to fully digest your food and beverages. Also, limit your caffeine intake too much earlier in the day so that your body isn’t wired when you want it to settle down.

Eliminate Stress

This probably won’t come as a surprise but stress from the day can have a significant impact on the amount of rest you’re able to get at night. Develop habits that help eliminate daily stress and worry before getting to bed. Listen to your favorite music, dig into a great book, or take a relaxing bath so that your body and mind can settle down for the night.

Unplug and Disconnect

If you have a television or computer in your bedroom, turn them off when you’re settling down for the night. Take your smartphone out of your bed as all of this artificial light inhibits your ability to get to sleep.
